Ukraine and the IMF have agreed on a new four-year financial support program worth over $8 billion

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko announced that Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund have reached staff-level agreements on launching a new support program.

In her post, she emphasized:

“The week of active work of the International Monetary Fund mission led by the head of the mission, Mr. Gavin Gray, in Kyiv ended with good results”.

According to Svyrydenko, the total volume of the program is $8.2 billion and is designed for four years. She explained that this program should provide financing for critical expenditures, support macro-financial stability, and facilitate the attraction of additional international assistance that Ukraine will need in the coming years.

At the same time, she clarified: “The agreement must still be approved by the IMF Executive Board”.

Commenting on the results of interaction with the Fund, Svyrydenko emphasized that the IMF confirmed the strength of the Ukrainian economy. According to her, “despite the blows to the energy sector and infrastructure, the economy is working, and Ukraine is demonstrating its ability to manage risks and maintain stability in the most difficult conditions”.

The Prime Minister also recalled that the government had prepared the draft State Budget for 2026 in accordance with the parameters of the new IMF program with a priority on efficient spending of funds.

“We count on the support of the people’s deputies when approving the draft state budget as a whole”, she added.

In addition, the head of government emphasized that Ukraine continues to move towards reforms. She noted:

“Our priorities remain unchanged: macroeconomic stability, debt sustainability, transparency and strong institutions. We are ready to continue implementing policies to combat the shadow economy, combat corruption and strengthen governance in the public sector. In particular, the corporate governance reset in state-owned enterprises is underway and the competition for the position of head of customs continues”.
