Greece proposes to create a transport corridor from its port to Odessa

Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis proposed the idea of creating a transport corridor that should connect the Greek port of Alexandroupolis with the Ukrainian Odesa. The route involves passing through Varna in Bulgaria and Constanta in Romania. That’s what he’s about stated during the “Ukraine – South-Eastern Europe” summit held on June 11 in Odesa.

“I would like Odesa to be at one end of an ambitious, comprehensive communication development project that would start at the port of Alexandroupolis, pass through Varna, Constanta and finally reach Odessa.” Mitsotakis emphasized.

According to him, this project can be proposed for financing by the European Union. The plan includes the development of rail transport, as well as the construction of electricity and gas networks along the corridor.

“This would be a project that would create an additional corridor for Ukraine to transport your goods much faster by sea.” explained the prime minister.

Mitsotakis also noted that this project will be “a clear and tangible vision of how Ukraine’s integration into the EU can really change the lives of Ukrainians.” Greece is ready to provide any expert or technical support to speed up the process of Ukraine’s rapprochement with the EU.

We will remind that on the sidelines of the summit in Odesa, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the President of Moldova Maya Sandu and the new President of Romania Nikushor Dan held the first meeting in a tripartite format.
