Ukraine asks the US to lift restrictions on weapons for strikes against Russia
According to Politico, Ukraine urges the administration of US President Joe Biden to cancel the ban on the use of American weapons for strikes on the territory of Russia.
Ukraine has been watching the Russian military build-up near the border for weeks, but has been unable to launch a pre-emptive strike with US-provided weapons because of restrictions imposed by the Biden administration, which have banned the use of long-range weapons for attacks on Russian territory.
This week, a delegation of Ukrainian parliamentarians arrived in Washington, who, among other things, intend to enlist the support of the US Congress in this matter.
“The main problem now is the policy of the White House, which limits our ability to strike military facilities on the territory of Russia“, – said the head of the “Servant of the People” faction, David Arahamia.
However, two US officials confirmed that the Biden administration’s position had not changed: “This assistance is intended for defense and not for offensive operations on the territory of Russia“.
It is important to note that Italy also imposed similar restrictions on its weapons supplied to the Armed Forces, prohibiting their use outside Ukrainian territory. This was stated by the head of the Italian Foreign Ministry, Luigi Di Maio.
