Hetmantsev stated that the conflict between Pyshny and Smilyansky has already crossed the line.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy will summon the heads of the National Bank of Ukraine and Ukrposhta, Andriy Pyshny and Ihor Smilyansky, to provide explanations regarding their conflict. This was reported by the head of the profile committee, Danylo Getmantsev.

The head of the financial committee, Danylo Getmantsev, noted that the personal confrontation between the head of the National Bank, Andriy Pyshny, and the general director of Ukrposhta, Ihor Smilyansky, has already gone beyond acceptable limits.

The reason for the public conflict between the officials was a fine of UAH 255,000, which the NBU imposed on Ukrposhta for failing to provide the information requested by the regulator. The National Bank explained that these were documents submitted late, and also pointed to problems with corporate governance and internal control in the company, which, according to the regulator, may create a systemic risk for the payment infrastructure.

In response to this, Smilyansky said that he doubts the “adequacy” of the regulator’s leadership, emphasizing that they often forget that “they are not a court or a prosecutor.”
