Ukraine can use its own weapons to strike Russia without US permission: State Department

Ukraine does not need permission from the United States to strike deep into Russian territory, as it can use its own weapons. This was stated by the representative of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, during briefing, reports “Voice of America”.

“They’re a sovereign country and they can use weapons that they’ve made themselves, and there are a lot of them. Look at the programs that they’ve put in place over the last year. And also if you look at the weapons that we’re giving them, we’ve made it very clear that they can use it to retaliate against Russian targets across the border, from which attacks are carried out. So Ukraine has a huge number of means of defense.”, – noted Miller.

At the same time, he emphasized that the United States continues to consider possible additional means of support for Ukraine. The government official noted that the US is constantly studying new weapons options that can be transferred to Ukrainian forces.

However, Miller avoided a direct answer to journalists’ questions about why the United States does not yet allow Ukraine to use American weapons to strike targets deep inside Russia. He explained that each new weapon system or tactic is evaluated in terms of its impact on overall strategy and the conduct of hostilities.

The spokesman also recalled the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to Washington, during which US President Joe Biden announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which should strengthen the country’s ability to defend itself and resist aggression.
