Trump will receive $25 million in compensation from Meta for blocking social media accounts

Meta has agreed to pay Donald Trump $25 million as part of a settlement of a lawsuit he filed in 2021 after his Facebook and Instagram accounts were suspended due to the events of January 6. About this informs The Wall Street Journal.

“Meta agreed to pay about $25 million to settle a 2021 lawsuit filed by Trump against the company and its CEO after the platforms blocked his accounts following the attack on the Capitol,” – says the message.

Recall that Meta blocked the president’s accounts in January 2021 due to his posts related to the storming of the Capitol. Then Trump supporters stormed the Congress building, trying to prevent the official recognition of Joe Biden’s victory. Access to the accounts was restored only in February 2023.

After his inauguration, Trump pardoned 1,500 participants in the storming of the Capitol. He himself was also prosecuted, but after winning the elections, all criminal cases were dropped.
