Ukraine expects a sharp increase in fuel prices from the new year

Fuel prices may increase significantly in Ukraine from the beginning of 2026. As reported by the National Bank of Ukraine, the main reason will be the increase in excise duties, which will come into effect from January 1.

The NBU’s message states:

“The planned increase in the excise tax on fuel will lead to an acceleration in the growth of its prices in the coming years. At the same time, prices are expected to remain relatively stable until the end of this year.

The law provides that the new excise tax rates will affect not only gasoline, but also other types of fuel. In particular:

  • gasoline will increase in price from 271.7 euros to 300.8 euros per 1,000 liters;

  • diesel – from 215.7 euros to 253.8 euros per 1,000 liters;

  • autogas – from 173 euros to 198 euros per 1,000 liters.

Experts predict that changes in wholesale prices will significantly affect the cost of fuel at gas stations. The expected increase may be: gasoline – by 1.5–2.5 UAH per liter, diesel – by 2–3 UAH per liter, autogas – by 1–1.8 UAH per liter.
