Ukraine handed over its proposals for a fossil fuel agreement to the United States

The Ukrainian delegation, during the technical consultations regarding the agreement on mineral resources, handed over the proposals prepared by Kyiv to the American side. About this reported Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration — Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olga Stefanishyna.

“I cannot give many details. This in itself is a positive sign that the consultations are taking place. Regarding what can be said at this stage: the Ukrainian delegation had the opportunity to convey to the American side all the proposals that we prepared here in Kyiv, which were agreed upon. All of them were the subject of discussion.” – said Stefanishyna.

Technical consultations regarding the mineral agreement with the United States were held with the participation of representatives of the ministries of justice and economy of Ukraine.

“I expect that after these consultations, negotiations will continue until we reach an agreement. This is not the final round, obviously.”, – added the Minister of Justice.

We will remind that on April 11, American and Ukrainian officials held a meeting to discuss the US proposal regarding access to Ukraine’s mineral resources. At the same time, the probability of achieving a breakthrough was low due to the “antagonistic” atmosphere of the negotiations. The tension was fueled by an updated version of the proposal from the Trump administration, which appeared to be significantly more expansive than the original version.

In the new project, a demand appeared for the International Development Finance Corporation of the US government to take control of the gas pipeline of the Russian company “Gazprom”, which passes through the territory of Ukraine to Europe. A representative of the US Treasury Department confirmed that discussions of the agreement are ongoing, describing the negotiations as “technical in nature”.
