“Ukrzaliznytsia” records a sharp drop in grain exports to Romania and other countries
The export of Ukrainian grain by rail to Romania suffered a sharp decline in May, more than halving.
About this write Rail.insider.
The only country to which grain exports by rail increased in May was Slovakia. The increase was 7.2 cars per day, or 25%, to a total of 36.1 cars per day.
In other areas, the situation is the opposite:
- Romania: the volume of grain transportation decreased by more than half.
- Other border crossings: a significant reduction in the transfer of grain cargoes is also recorded
The reasons for such a sharp drop in grain exports by rail are still unknown. Possible factors may be changes in logistics chains, the state of the world grain market, as well as internal problems of the Ukrainian agricultural sector.
Despite the decrease in grain exports, “Ukrzaliznytsia” continues to actively restore the cargo fleet. Recently, the company has restored more than 7,000 freight cars, which should improve its ability to transport cargo, in particular grain.
