Ukraine has increased electricity imports from Europe to the maximum
Despite Russian shelling of energy infrastructure, Ukraine continues to strengthen its energy system through imports from Europe and the development of distributed generation. In October, electricity imports reached the maximum permitted level. This was reported by the head of “Ukrenergo” Vitaliy Zaichenko, the company’s press service.
The management of NPC “Ukrenergo” held a meeting with representatives of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, during which they discussed the readiness of the energy system for the heating season, the development of distributed generation and the possibilities of importing electricity.
“Today, the high-voltage network of “Ukrenergo” is fully ready to transmit winter volumes of electricity. If it weren’t for the Russian shelling, we could say that we don’t expect any difficulties during the heating season. Unfortunately, the enemy’s attacks on energy facilities continue, – said Zaichenko.
According to him, Russia continues to strike both at generation and substations. In such conditions, cooperation with business is important, in particular, in connecting backup power plants to work on the electricity market. This will contribute to the development of a distributed generation system, which increases the country’s energy stability.
According to companies that produce electricity using gas turbine and gas piston plants, this segment has grown by 270% since the beginning of the year. The capacity of energy storage systems has also increased significantly.
“Ukrenergo” explained that this was facilitated by active work with business and holding special auctions for the long-term provision of auxiliary services. This interaction allows strengthening internal energy stability on the eve of winter.
The maximum capacity of electricity imports in October reached 2.1 GW, which was the highest figure in recent months. This allows creating additional reserves in case of damage to Ukrainian generating capacities during attacks.
“To increase the technical capabilities of imports, necessary work is being carried out within the framework of the Eastern Europe Capacity Calculation Region (EE CCR)”, – reported in “Ukrenergo”.
