Ukraine is ready for a truce with the Russian Federation during the 2026 Olympics: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Ukraine supported the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, to introduce a truce with Russia for the period of the Winter Olympic Games in February 2026. This was announced at the briefing He reminded that Russia has repeatedly started aggressive actions precisely during the Olympics — both against Ukraine and Georgia, and is doing it deliberately.
“These are not random events that have a very cynical explanation. They know very well that during the Olympics, the media’s attention is focused on sports events, and therefore crimes can be committed against the background of these events. It is necessary to prevent Russia from doing it again, Tykhi emphasized
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Ukraine is already ready for a truce with Russia, and for this there is no need to wait for the start of the Olympics.
“If Russia needs an “Olympic truce” for this, then let it be an Olympic one. But we, in principle, insist that it happen before the Olympics. I think that the statement of the Italian minister is aimed at stimulating Russia to the peace process, to some meaningful diplomacy, to real steps towards peace, summed up the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
