Soldiers can already seek help from the Military Ombudsman
Military personnel already have the opportunity to seek help in case of violation of their rights, even in the absence of a draft law on the military ombudsman. About it on the air of the national telethon reported Olha Reshetylova, the President’s authorized representative for the protection of the rights of servicemen and their families.
“It is necessary to apply, and it was necessary before, and now. I published on your Facebook page, the phone numbers and e-mails you can write to now. In the near future, we will create official authorized e-mails, and then I will update this data. But in any case, you can write to me in private messages on social networks.” – noted Reshetylova.
According to her, she cooperates with a lawyer of the “For Human Rights” media initiative, which provides consultations to military personnel.
“A lawyer from the media initiative “For Human Rights” works with me. If there is simply a question, a serviceman needs consultation – she consults. She processes some more serious issues, we draw up appeals and respond to them.”, – the commissioner explained.
Military personnel can appeal in cases of illegal orders, illegal actions in military units, humiliation of dignity and honor by commanders or state structures.
“I emphasize that there are situations when, for example, it is torture, beatings – this is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies, but of course I will keep such cases under control, and of course such cases must be addressed to me”, – added Reshetilova.
