Ukraine is ready to resume air travel by 95%, but expects air defense to be strengthened

The Aviation Service of Ukraine announced that it is 95% ready to resume flights, but the main condition remains ensuring the safety of passengers. About this told Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister of Community and Territorial Development.
According to the minister, after the decision to launch flights in such cities as Lviv or Boryspil, it will take about 45-50 days for full preparation. However, the key condition remains the security guarantee.
“The security architecture provides for very serious means of air defense, which today in the country are used for their purpose. Therefore, when we have enough air defense for this or that airport, we will be able to talk about it. Unfortunately, today, it is impractical.”, the official emphasized.
When asked about the possibility of resuming air traffic in 2025, Kuleba replied that everything would depend on the situation at the front. Ukrainian airspace was closed to civilian aviation on February 24, 2022, following the start of a full-scale Russian invasion. To date, the opening of airspace for civilian aircraft remains impossible.
In April 2023, Ukraeroruh announced that air flights in Ukraine would resume after the end of hostilities and victory. At the same time, Eurocontrol’s forecast states that flights may return to Ukrainian skies only in 2029.
