Ukraine offers EU Odesa-Brody oil pipeline to replace damaged Druzhba
Ukraine has proposed to the European Union to use the Odesa-Brody oil pipeline to supply oil to Hungary and Slovakia during the repair of the Druzhba pipeline damaged by the Russian attack.
This is stated in a letter from the Mission of Ukraine to the European Union dated February 20, 2026 to the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission. The document states that after the strikes on January 27, 2026, carried out by the aggressor state, parts of Ukraine’s oil transportation system were significantly damaged, including technological units and auxiliary equipment of the Druzhba pipeline.
Ukrainian specialists are currently conducting technical inspections of the damaged areas and analyzing the possibilities of quickly resuming oil transportation, EU diplomats reported. At the same time, it is emphasized that the stable operation of the energy infrastructure is possible only after the cessation of attacks by the Russian Federation.
“The Ukrainian side would like to emphasize that the uninterrupted and stable functioning of the oil transportation infrastructure is possible only if the Russian Federation ceases massive missile and drone attacks aimed at destroying the energy infrastructure of Ukraine”, the letter said.
In parallel, repair teams are working to eliminate the consequences of enemy strikes and stabilize the system, although these tasks have to be performed under the constant threat of new attacks. In particular, it is noted that Ukrainian specialists are forced to carry out emergency and restoration work under the constant threat of air strikes, risking their lives.
Within the framework of guaranteeing the security of energy supply for European countries, Ukraine has proposed alternative transportation routes. In particular, the option of delivering oil through the Ukrainian pipeline network or by sea with subsequent reloading in ports and further transportation via the Odessa-Brody pipeline to the countries of the European Union is being considered.
