Ukraine plans to raise electricity tariffs for the population (video)
By the end of May, the Government of Ukraine will make a decision on increasing the electricity tariff for the population.
About this stated Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko during the hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada.
“This matter is pending, today we are making final calculations, a decision will be made in the coming week, that is, by the end of May… We are currently considering a differentiated approach. I do not think that one tariff will simply be changed to another – there will be differentiation depending on the amount of electricity consumption“, the minister told the people’s deputies.
According to the minister, the increase will probably be differentiated and will depend on the volume of electricity consumption. This approach is considered due to the fact that the current tariff does not cover the cost of production, and the difference is compensated by the state companies “Energoatom” and “Ukrhydroenergo”.
The decision to increase the tariff was prompted by the need to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure after Russian shelling this spring, which damaged several large thermal power plants, CHP and Dniprovska HPP.
We will remind that from June 1, 2023, the tariff for electricity for the population is 2.64 UAH/kWh including VAT and has not changed since then. In addition, NKREKP recently increased the maximum ceiling prices for electricity for businesses, which will be effective from June 1.
