Ukraine received more than 50 thousand appeals from the Russian Federation regarding missing soldiers

The Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported that the number of appeals from the families of Russian servicemen who went missing during hostilities in Ukraine exceeded 50,000. These data made public head of the Secretariat of the Staff Bohdan Okhrimenko in his interview for “Army Inform”.

According to Okhrimenko, the “I want to find” project was created due to the large volume of appeals that were initially sent to the telephone hotline.

“We started with phone calls, but quickly realized that the scale of the problem was much larger than expected. This forced us to create a separate project to handle the influx of requests.” – he noted.

According to the Ukrainian side, the real number of missing Russian soldiers may exceed 100,000 people, if we take into account not only the appeals of families, but also confirmed losses. At the same time, a significant part of the bodies of dead soldiers remains on the battlefield, which greatly complicates identification.

Okhrimenko emphasized that the Russian authorities show unwillingness to cooperate in this direction.

“They not only ignore the issue of identification of the dead, but also avoid the obligation to pay social assistance to the families. This creates additional difficulties for the citizens of Russia themselves, who are trying to find their relatives.” – added the head of the Secretariat.

The Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters continues its work aimed at solving this issue, despite the lack of cooperation with the Russian side. The I Want to Find project remains one of the few resources available to families of Russian soldiers looking for information about their loved ones.
