Ukraine, together with Moldova, is looking for new alternative routes after the attack on the bridge in the Odessa region

Ukraine, together with Moldova, is working on organizing alternative routes after the Russian attack on the bridge near the village of Mayaki in the Odessa region. This was reported by Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba.

According to him, immediately after the shelling, military administrations, road services, border guards and specialized structures of the ministry joined the search for new routes. Passenger transportation, freight traffic and transit flows that connect the south of the region with border checkpoints and the Danube direction suffered the most.

Oleksiy Kuleba noted that since the beginning of autumn, Russia has been systematically attacking the logistical infrastructure of front-line regions, using drones and ballistic missiles. According to his assessment, such strikes are aimed at making it difficult for civilians to move around and disrupt supplies, putting additional pressure on residents.

The Russian attack took place on the evening of December 18 – the bridge over the Dniester River near Mayaki, which connects the historic Bessarabia with the rest of the Odessa region, was hit. The head of the Odessa OVA, Oleg Kiper, reported that one of the drones hit a civilian car carrying a woman with three children. The woman died in the ambulance.

The next day, the authorities announced the suspension of traffic on the M-15 Odesa – Reni highway, and the border guard service warned of difficulties in reaching checkpoints on the border with Moldova and urged drivers to use alternative routes.
