Officials from Dnipro will stand trial for embezzlement of UAH 10.5 million in military procurement

Law enforcement agencies have submitted to court an indictment against four officials of a department of the Dnipro City Council suspected of embezzling significant budget funds.

According to the Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Eastern Region, the director of the city council department organised a group to carry out criminal activities, involving his subordinates – heads of departments and one of the deputy heads of the department.

During the procurement of goods for military units during martial law, the defendants deliberately violated the requirements for the rational and efficient use of local budget funds. They purchased equipment and other goods necessary for the army at prices that exceeded market prices by more than 30%.

‘The actions of the defendants caused losses to the state in excess of UAH 10.5 million,’ the prosecutor’s office said.

The Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police of Ukraine added that the goods purchased at inflated prices included night vision monoculars, thermal imagers, generators and other equipment for the military.
