Ukraine was elected as the representative of Europe in the WADA Executive Committee for three years
On September 3, a meeting of the Special European Committee on the World Anti-Doping Agency was held, at which they unanimously supported the candidacy of the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Matvyi Bidny, for his election to the WADA Executive Committee. Speaking online, Matvyi Bidny thanked the countries that support Ukraine, especially those that help organize the training process and conduct anti-doping testing for Ukrainian athletes.
The minister emphasized that, despite the war, Ukraine continues to improve its anti-doping policy, which is one of the key priorities. He also noted that the recently adopted legislation, developed jointly with the Council of Europe and WADA, fully complies with international standards and requirements of the World Anti-Doping Code.
Bidny shared his vision of working in the WADA executive committee, emphasizing the need to ensure the rights of athletes, their active participation in anti-doping activities and providing them with appropriate educational tools. He stressed: “WADA must seek consensus and ensure close cooperation between all stakeholders, focusing on developing national capacities and strengthening the global anti-doping system through partnerships.”
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Andriy Chesnokov, who represented Ukraine at the meeting on behalf of Matvyi Bidnyi, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the field of anti-doping. He noted: “The unanimous support of Ukraine’s candidacy to the WADA Executive Committee by all anti-doping organizations of the member states of the Council of Europe testifies to the achievements that the Ukrainian anti-doping system has achieved even in the conditions of war.”
The final approval of delegates from the Council of Europe to the executive committee of WADA is expected in October this year during the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
