Ukraine will receive an invitation to join NATO within the 1991 borders: Stefanishyna

The admission of Ukraine to NATO without the temporarily occupied territories is not discussed. Ukraine will be invited to the Alliance only within its 1991 borders. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as the Minister of Justice Olga Stefanishyna during the national telethon.
According to Stefanyshyn, the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO without the temporarily occupied territories is not a subject for discussion at all. She emphasized that Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance will become a reality only after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war, but the invitation process may be accompanied by changes in the current situation.
“After the invitation, a protocol on accession is drawn up, which specifies both the terms and the reforms that need to be made, this is a matter of physical compatibility. But that is later. Now it is an invitation, and it is not discussed at all, neither the advance on the front, nor the territories”, she explained.
It will be recalled that earlier the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi noted that Western officials who offered Ukraine to join NATO in exchange for giving up the occupied territories never made such statements openly.
Also, the head of state has repeatedly emphasized that Ukraine will not give up its territories for the sake of any political status. He called it “absolute madness” the proposals to cede part of the lands in exchange for a possible end to the war or joining NATO.
