Ukraine won the entire podium in the sprint of the 2026 Paralympics among athletes with visual impairments
The first competitive day of the parabiathlon for athletes with visual impairments started at the 2026 Paralympic Games, which included men’s and women’s sprints. The men’s sprint was extremely successful for the Ukrainian team – our athletes took all three prize positions, forming a full medal podium.
The winner was Oleksandr Kazik, who showed an adapted time of 17:37.7 minutes and won his second Paralympic “gold” after his triumph at the Beijing 2022 Games in the 12.5 km race. Yaroslav Reshetynskyi took second place, 1:02.4 behind Kazik, and Anatoliy Kovalevskyi took third, finishing 1:06.1 minutes behind.
Ukrainian athletes demonstrated impeccable shooting at the firing lines — not a single miss, which was one of the key factors in their success. Overall, this brought Ukraine its third “gold” in biathlon on the first day of the Paralympics and first place in the medal standings of the Games.
Among other Ukrainian participants, Dmytro Suyarko finished fifth (0+1, +1:16.0), and Maksym Murashkovskyi finished seventh (1+1, +2:40.2), confirming the strong team form of the national team at the start of the Games.
Ukrainian parabiathletes demonstrated a high level of preparation and team synchrony, consolidating their leading positions at the 2026 Paralympic Games on the first day of the competition.
