Ukrainian banking institutions updated their exchange rates as of April 20, setting the historically highest average selling price of euros to the population. The cost of the European currency reached UAH 52.30, which became a new absolute record for the national market.
The previous peak was recorded only two days ago, on April 18, 2026, when the average selling price was UAH 52.25. Analysts attribute this dynamics to increased demand for cash currency and general macroeconomic trends.
Following the banking sector, the unofficial market also reacted. On the black market, dollar quotes against the hryvnia were set at UAH 43.43 for buying and UAH 43.55 for selling. The euro in this segment was traded at UAH 50.65 and UAH 50.90, respectively. Compared to the data for the end of last week, there is a clear trend towards an increase in the price of major foreign currencies both in the legal field and in exchange offices.
“Banks began selling euros to the population at the highest average price in history – fifty-two hryvnias and thirty kopecks,” — the financial portal’s report states.
Average exchange rates at the cash desks of systemic banks showed a noticeable increase compared to the indicators for April 17. The US dollar was offered on average for 43.75–44.30 UAH, while a few days ago this range was 43.57–44.09 UAH. The European currency in bank cash desks has risen in price to UAH 51.40–52.30. The highest dollar selling rates among the largest financial institutions were recorded in FUIB (UAH 44.40) and PrivatBank (UAH 44.30).
“Average currency rates in bank cash desks have increased, which reflects the current volatility in the cash market,” analysts summarized in their daily review.
As for cash euros, the highest selling price is currently offered by PrivatBank — UAH 52.50 per unit of currency. In Oschadbank and Raiffeisen Bank, the selling rate was set at UAH 52.30, and in Ukrsibbank — UAH 52.35. FUIB offers to buy euros for UAH 51.00, and sell for UAH 52.40. Such a spread in prices indicates the efforts of financial institutions to adapt to rapid changes in market conditions and ensure the availability of cash in cash desks.
The situation on the foreign exchange market remains under the close attention of the regulator and the expert community. The constant updating of the historical highs of the European currency creates additional pressure on consumer prices and expectations of the population.
Financial institutions continue to operate as usual, ensuring exchange transactions, but the volatility of exchange rates forces citizens to be more careful when planning large purchases and savings in foreign currency.
