Ukrainian carriers face huge fines in Poland

Ukrainian carriers operating in Poland found themselves in a difficult situation due to significant fines imposed for even minor technical violations. By in words Deputy Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, Serhiy Derkach, the amount of fines reaches the maximum mark – 12 thousand zlotys (about 120 thousand hryvnias).
The main reason for the imposition of such fines is minor technical errors, such as the absence of a punctuation mark in the documentation or the temporary loss of the GPS signal for several hundred meters of the road. This creates serious difficulties for Ukrainian carriers operating on the Polish market.
The Ukrainian side has already initiated negotiations with Polish colleagues, in particular the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, and has also appealed to the European Commission to intervene in resolving the situation. Serhiy Derkach noted that Ukraine insists on the correct operation of the system of fines, the creation of a support service for carriers and the establishment of a fair ratio between the violation and the size of the imposed sanction.
Carriers who consider the fines to be unlawful are also recommended to send evidence and substantiated statements to the official email address of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. It is important to add confirmation that the fine was imposed without sufficient grounds.
This situation has become another obstacle for Ukrainian carriers in Poland, which the Ukrainian authorities are trying to deal with. We will remind that from January 1, 2025, the minimum wage in Poland has increased to 4,666 zlotys (about 1,132 US dollars before taxes), which also affects the economic working conditions for many industries, including transport.
