Ukrainian GTS filled with domestic biomethane for the first time

The Vitagro group of companies successfully supplied the first batch of biomethane produced at its own plant to the gas transportation system of Ukraine. As the company reports, the team of “Vitagro Energy” LLC together with the specialists of the Khmelnytskyi branch of “Gas Distribution Networks of Ukraine” took such an important step for the first time in the history of the Ukrainian energy industry.
At the initial stage, the plant will operate at a capacity of 60-70% of the planned level, with a gradual increase in the volume of production and supply to the gas distribution network. Currently, the daily volume of gas supplied to the system is about 6,000 cubic meters, and the plant can reach full capacity by the end of October.
At the same time, the Vitagro group is actively working on organizing the export of biomethane. The company has already received all the necessary permits and plans to start sales to foreign markets as soon as it accumulates sufficient volumes in gas storage facilities.
The head of Vitagro’s renewable energy sources department, Volodymyr Ivakhiv, noted that if all procedures work correctly, the first export of Ukrainian biomethane can take place as early as November.
“We also expect that this will be a significant step towards the harmonization of the domestic and European biomethane market by analogy with the electric energy market. We are currently taking the first steps – in addition to setting up the operation of the plant itself, active work is being conducted with the operators of the GTS, HRM, Ukrtransgaz, the supplier technologies for working out all interaction procedures between companies”, – added Ivakhiv.
