Ukrainian Music Day officially appeared in Ukraine

Every year on the third Saturday of September, Ukraine will celebrate Ukrainian Music Day. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a corresponding resolution on May 27.

The document states that the chosen date is associated with the Ukrainian youth music festival “Chervona Ruta”, founded in 1989 in Chernivtsi. This day will honor the contribution of Ukrainian performers and music workers to the development of national culture.

“Supporting cultural resistance in the context of Russia’s armed aggression and strengthening the Ukrainian cultural space free from Russian influence,” the resolution states.

The website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine reported that representatives of the music industry, in particular the Ukrainian Agency for Copyright and Related Rights, addressed parliamentarians with a proposal to introduce Ukrainian Music Day.

Oleksandr Sanchenko, Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Music Industry of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, noted that the professional music community needs its own day to consolidate efforts, develop Ukrainian music, and strengthen state support for the industry.

The introduction of the Ukrainian Music Day should become an additional tool for supporting national culture and strengthening the Ukrainian musical space.
