Ukrainians warned against using unverified chatbots that sell cars

On October 31, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine warned citizens about the danger of using unverified chatbots that supposedly help buy a car, but are actually engaged in fraud.

“Be careful! Fraudulent chatbots sell non-existent cars. The Cyber Police and the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs warn: fraudsters create fake chatbots that supposedly help buy a car, check documents or “find a good deal”. Such “bots” imitate official services, using logos and similar domains to lure personal data or money, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.

The department emphasized that recently cybercriminals have been actively creating fake services similar to official online platforms, in particular chatbots that promise a car check according to the state register, quick document processing or “exclusive discounts”. In fact, these resources collect users’ personal data or offer to make an advance payment for non-existent vehicles.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urged citizens to be careful and use only verified and official state platforms: the “Diya” mobile application and the “Driver’s Cabinet” online service. It is also not recommended to follow suspicious links, open attachments from unknown senders, or trust intermediaries who offer “help” in registering a car.

It is especially important not to transfer money for a car that you have not seen in person or have not verified with documents. If citizens encounter such fraudulent schemes, the Ministry of Internal Affairs advises them to immediately contact the Cyber Police.

“If you encounter fraudulent actions, report them to the Cyber Police”, — the Ministry of Internal Affairs summarized.
