Ukrainians will be able to choose the cheapest medicines by e-prescription thanks to a new function
A new e-prescription option is being introduced in Ukraine, which allows patients to see the three most affordable options for the necessary medicines in the National Price Catalog and choose according to their budget. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, noting:
“Medicines should be accessible to everyone. The government continues a set of measures that will increase price transparency and allow people to choose the most affordable option.”
Information about the three cheapest drugs will be available via a QR code on a paper note issued by a doctor. The catalog shows all medicines with the same active ingredient, dosage and form of release, and among the three cheapest options, at least one is necessarily available in the pharmacy.
At the first stage, the function concerns single-component prescription medicines in the form of tablets and capsules, purchased at one’s own expense. Later, the government plans to expand it to other drugs. The national catalog contains maximum prices, so pharmacies cannot sell medicines more expensive than the established level.
Earlier, Ukraine launched the website of the National Catalog of Prices for Medicines, which provides price transparency and information on drug purchases.
