In Kherson, due to shelling, the CHP cannot be restored and alternatives to heating are being sought
In Kherson, due to constant shelling by Russian troops, it is currently impossible to restore the operation of the CHP, so the local authorities are forced to look for alternative heating options for the city’s residents. This was stated by Olexander Tolokonnikov, deputy head of the Kherson OVA, during a telethon.
According to the official, regular attacks on the facility have resulted in 470 apartment buildings that were connected to the CHP network being left without centralized heating. In this regard, the authorities are working on several areas of assistance to the population.
“We are considering several options for assistance so that, in addition to CHP, people have the opportunity to heat their homes with something else”, – said Tolokonnikov.
He specified that electric heaters have already been delivered to the city, which are given primarily to socially vulnerable categories of citizens. In addition, the company “Naftogaz” provided heaters for Kherson residents. In parallel, other options for supplying centralized heat are being worked out, but the details are not yet disclosed for security reasons.
Separately, the deputy head of the Kherson Regional State Administration drew attention to the difficult situation with electricity supply in the coastal zone of the region. According to him, 45 settlements still remain without electricity due to the danger to repair crews.
“We cannot connect there yet, because flights are constantly arriving to where we have just finished working. Sometimes something hits where electricians are working, and people who went to work were injured. Therefore, it is not possible to connect there yet, until the security situation allows it, Tolokonnikov explained.
He also recalled that over the past month, the Kherson CHP has been subjected to intensive attacks using drones, artillery and other types of weapons. As a result of the shelling, the completely civilian facility that provided the city with heat received significant damage, in particular, the premises and equipment of the station were destroyed.
