Ukrzaliznytsia introduces sign language announcements in high-speed trains at Kyiv and Lviv railway stations

In high-speed trains and on the screens of the Kyiv and Lviv railway stations, announcements in sign language began to appear. Now passengers with hearing impairments can receive important information about the start of an air alert, the location of toilets, children’s areas, as well as about additional services at stations and on trains. About this informs “Ukrzaliznytsia”.

About the application

A new application allows railway workers to call a sign language interpreter in real time. Communication is carried out through video communication: the employee speaks, and the interpreter instantly translates his words into sign language; in the reverse direction, the interpreter pronounces the words of the hearing-impaired passenger.

These innovations are part of the broad barrier-free strategy of “Ukrzaliznytsia”, which aims to create safe and accessible conditions for all passengers.

Over the past two years, the company has implemented more than 100 projects aimed at modernizing stations, renewing rolling stock, introducing new services for people with disabilities, as well as providing the possibility of online ordering of inclusive carriages.
