UNESCO will carry out special monitoring of the State Industry in Kharkiv
For the first time, UNESCO will apply the “special monitoring” mechanism for the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage in wartime conditions, in particular with regard to the Derzhprom building in Kharkiv. About this reported on the official website of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
During the first day of work of the 19th meeting of the UNESCO Committee, which took place on December 11, a historic decision was made to introduce enhanced monitoring of the Derzhprom building, which was damaged by the Russian attack on November 8.
Significant destruction of one of the brightest examples of avant-garde architecture of the 20th century caused an active reaction of the international community. The use of a new “ad hoc monitoring” mechanism will allow experts to accurately record the extent of damage, and the collected documentation will be transferred to the International Criminal Court for further action.
The Minister of Culture of Ukraine Mykola Tochytskyi emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that joint efforts with international partners will contribute not only to the preservation of cultural heritage, but also to its further restoration.
“The tireless work of international partners will make it possible not only to record the state of the heritage, but also to ensure its revival“, he emphasized.
