For the first time in the history of the subway, a female driver works in the Kharkiv metro

For the first time in history, a woman works as a train driver in the Kharkiv metro. Her story was told by “Suspilne. Kharkiv”.

The innovator was 25-year-old Anastasia Mazurkova, who after graduating from the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” chose the profession of metro driver.

“It is unusual for men that a woman tries to join the profession. But our team reacted with interest and respect”, – says Anastasia.

Mazurkova emphasized that the work of a machinist is difficult and requires maximum concentration and attention. She emphasized that it is important for her not only to destroy stereotypes, but also for society to understand the complexity of this profession from a professional point of view.

In order to become a subway driver, it is necessary to go through several stages of training and pass exams. According to Anastasia, the process begins with applying to the metro technical school, where future train drivers learn the theory and pass exams in each subject. Only after successfully passing theoretical tests, applicants pass the final exam for the right to drive an electric train.

“The most difficult thing in the process of becoming a machinist is to combine theory and practice. There is a lot of information that you study and try to understand, and then all this information that you memorized and passed the exam must be translated into practice.”, – shares the girl.

It is worth noting that in June, the Kyiv Metro also announced the recruitment of women to train for the position of driver, as there is a shortage of personnel in the capital. If the training is successful, the first female machinist may enter the line by the end of the year.
