US presidential election: voting is over in almost all states, Trump is ahead of Harris

Today, 6 November, the presidential election in the United States of America comes to an end. Voting in the presidential, Senate and House of Representatives elections has ended in 44 states. The first data is already coming in from the polling stations.

According to preliminary estimates, Republican candidate Donald Trump is leading in Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina and Arkansas. At the same time, the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received support in Vermont, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, Illinois, and New Jersey.

The US presidential election system works through the Electoral College, where each state has a certain number of votes depending on its population. Most states (except Maine and Nebraska) give all their votes to the candidate who wins the election in that state. To win, a candidate must receive at least 270 of the 538 electoral votes.

In a few populous states, such as California (55 votes) and Texas (38), the voting process is still ongoing. The seven states considered to be key to the outcome of the election – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – have seen the most intense competition between the candidates.

It is worth noting that different US media outlets report election results with certain differences, as each publication independently determines when a candidate can be declared victorious in a state. This creates discrepancies in the numbers.
