US State Department allocates another $1.8 billion for UN humanitarian program
The US State Department has increased funding for the United Nations humanitarian initiative by another $1.8 billion. The total amount of support under the program has increased to $3.8 billion, part of the funds will be directed to humanitarian projects in Ukraine.
According to the words of the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanishyna, specific programs and amounts of funding will be determined by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs after agreement with the US Department of State.
The US Department of State stated that the additional funding is reaffirm long-term support for humanitarian programs while strengthening demands for effectiveness and reform of the UN system.
In addition to Ukraine, humanitarian funds in Bangladesh, Myanmar, the Central African Republic, Chad, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, Lebanon, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and other countries will receive support.
At the end of 2025, the United States and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs signed the first humanitarian restart agreement. According to the US State Department, an initial contribution of $2 billion has already helped more than 21 million people receive the support they need.
