USAID finances $8.3 million to print more than 3.2 million copies of textbooks for students in grades 1-2

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has allocated $8.3 million in grant funding to support educational initiatives in Ukraine. These funds were used to print more than 3.2 million copies of textbooks for students of grades 1-2. Such a large-scale project is of great importance for the country’s educational system, especially in wartime conditions, when many schools face a shortage of material resources.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in cooperation with the US government, has developed a plan to provide elementary classes with textbooks that meet modern educational standards. The funding, which was provided through USAID, covered the cost of printing textbooks in key subjects such as English, German and French. In addition to foreign languages, a significant part of the books consists of textbooks on the subjects “I explore the world” and “Art”, which help children develop critical thinking skills, research abilities and creative potential.

Funding of $8.3 million allowed not only to print enough textbooks, but also to ensure their timely delivery to schools across the country. This project is part of USAID’s broader strategy to support Ukraine’s democracy, education, and independent development. It is worth noting that textbooks cover not only basic knowledge, but also develop critical and analytical thinking, which is an important component of preparing modern students for future challenges.

The importance of supporting education in wartime conditions

Against the backdrop of military operations in Ukraine, the educational system is undergoing significant upheaval, and access to quality educational materials is becoming critically important. Thanks to USAID funding, Ukrainian schoolchildren of grades 1-2 receive modern textbooks, which helps to ensure the continuity of the educational process even in difficult conditions. Textbooks have become available for most schools in the country, which is especially important for regions affected by active hostilities and where schools have been partially or completely destroyed.

The first batch of textbooks was delivered to schools during the visit of USAID Administrator Samantha Paver to Kyiv. Her visit had a symbolic significance, underscoring the readiness of the United States to provide long-term support to Ukraine, particularly in the field of education. During the official event, Paver emphasized the importance of education as a foundation for building a democratic and independent future of Ukraine. She also noted that “history will always be written by those who build, not those who destroy,” meaning that investment in education is an investment in the country’s peaceful and successful future.

Education as the key to the recovery of Ukraine

This funding program is an important element in the broader US support for the reconstruction and reconstruction of Ukraine after the war. USAID actively supports various initiatives in the fields of education, health care, and the economy that help Ukraine adapt to new challenges and create sustainable institutions. Financing the printing of textbooks is only one of many aspects of aid, but its importance cannot be overstated, because it is education that lays the foundation for the development of future generations.

Ukrainian children who receive these textbooks today will grow up in an environment where education will be available even in the most difficult circumstances. It is education that makes it possible to form future leaders, public figures and professionals who will be ready to take responsibility for the reconstruction of the country after the end of the conflict.

The partnership between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and USAID is an example of effective international cooperation that helps to solve important issues in the field of education. Providing more than 3.2 million copies of textbooks is not only a response to the urgent needs of the education system of Ukraine, but also a testimony of long-term support from the United States. Thanks to such initiatives, Ukraine has the opportunity to provide its students with quality education, which is an important step towards building a strong and independent future for the country.
