VAKS chose a preventive measure against the former deputy minister of energy on suspicion of corruption schemes
On September 24, the Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court chose preventive measure for the former Deputy Minister of Energy Maksym Nemchynov in the case of fraud with coal, obliging him to perform certain duties.
At the beginning of September, VAKS rejected the request of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office to apply a preventive measure to Nemchynov in the form of bail. Prosecutors appealed, and the court upheld their appeal in part, overturning a previous ruling on September 4.
The court imposed a number of obligations on Nemchynov, in particular, obliged him to appear at the first request of law enforcement agencies and to refrain from contact with other suspects and witnesses in the case.
We will remind that on July 26, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine announced suspicions against three persons accused of causing losses to the state enterprise in the amount of 12 million hryvnias during the sale of coal in July 2022. Among them are former People’s Deputy Volodymyr Vecherko, whose company purchased coal from the state-owned “Ukrvugilya” for supply to cement factories, Mykhailo Voloshyn, the head of “Ukrvugilya” at the time, as well as Maksym Nemchynov, who at that time held the position of adviser to the Minister of Energy.
Later, NABU also announced suspicions against other representatives of the state energy sector, which indicates a wider scope of the investigation in this case.
