On August 25, at a press conference in Kyiv with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Har Støre, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the planned meeting of Ukrainian and American representatives at the end of this week to discuss the possibility of future peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
“Today there will be a meeting with Kellogg to continue this topic, to develop preparations for the possibility of a future meeting with the Russian side. At the end of the week, there will be a meeting between the Ukrainian team and the American team. Accordingly, the people you mentioned, or part of those people, Zelenskyi said.
The head of state added that there will be a lot of work during the week. According to him, the head of the Office of the President Andrii Yermak had contacts with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other international partners the day before. On the Independence Day of Ukraine, Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga joined the online meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of Seven. (G7).
“And I think we will have a basic plan for security assurances. I think that the details still need time. We still need to work. And after that, I would like to understand from the American side whether the Russians are ready for a meeting and in what configuration. Are the Russians ready for the configuration that was proposed by America and supported by Ukraine in the presence of European leaders – a bilateral and then a trilateral meeting, the president stressed.
