Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the creation of the Office of the Military Ombudsman, which will be headed by Olga Reshetylova
President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the creation of the Office of the Military Ombudsman and announced the appointment of Olga Reshetylova, who previously held the position of the President of Ukraine’s Commissioner for Rights Protection, as the first military ombudsman servicemen and members of their families.
“I thank the parliamentarians for passing my bill on the military ombudsman. This is about the real protection of the rights of our soldiers. The law has already been signed and published. Today, I signed a decree to make the law work – a decree on the creation of the Office of the Military Ombudsman,” the president noted.
The head of state also approved the regulations on the activity of this institution. The office of the military ombudsman will become a permanent auxiliary body under the President of Ukraine, which will carry out civilian control over the observance of the rights of representatives of all Defense Forces – from active military and volunteer formations of territorial communities to reservists on training, members of the resistance movement under occupation and law enforcement officers participating in hostilities.
The military ombudsman will deal with service-related problems, hear complaints, order inspections and work out solutions. Every year, he will submit a report to the President and the Verkhovna Rada.
“Ahead is the launch of the institution, system work. It is important that this is felt at all levels in the Defense Forces of Ukraine: we do what strengthens the army, we do what strengthens the soldiers in our army”, concluded Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
