President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Ukraine is ready to hold presidential elections, but there are two critically important aspects that need to be ensured.
The head of state said thissaid during a chat in the Office of the President.
Zelensky explained that the issue of the elections was not discussed with foreign partners, since it depends primarily on Ukrainians, not on other states.
“I will say frankly that I am ready for the elections. If there is a question that, I have heard such hints that we are clinging to power, or I personally am clinging to the presidential seat, and that is why I am clinging to it, and that is why the war is not ending, this, to be honest, is a completely inadequate story”, — the president noted.
He emphasized that the first condition for holding the vote – guarantee of citizens’ security, because it is currently unclear how to organize elections under the threat of Russian strikes. Additionally, Zelensky drew attention to the need to determine the voting procedure for the military.
The Head of State called the second condition the presence of a legislative framework that ensures the legitimacy of the electoral process. The President called on the US and European partners to support Ukraine in this issue and guarantee security during the elections. According to him, under such conditions, the country will be ready to hold the vote in the next 60-90 days.
In addition, Zelensky appealed to the Verkhovna Rada with a request to prepare legislative proposals for possible amendments to the laws on elections under martial law. He stressed that he expects initiatives from partners and Ukrainian deputies and is ready to proceed with the elections.
