War in Iran could cause shortage of missiles for air defense systems in Ukraine: Financial Times

The US military is warning that the conflict in Iran could lead to a shortage of missiles for air defense systems, which would potentially affect the situation in Ukraine and US war plans for possible conflicts with China or Russia. This is reported by Financial Times.

According to US officials and analysts, limited supplies of critical munitions to protect US troops and allies from Iranian missiles could affect any US military offensive against Iran.

Last year, the US and Israel spent a significant portion of their arsenals of interceptor missiles during the 12-day war, when Iran fired hundreds of missiles at Israel. The US military now estimates that retaliatory strikes by Iran could make it difficult to replenish ammunition supplies, which would affect the war in Ukraine and US combat plans for other potential conflicts.

Officials note that the US has spent up to 150 THAAD munitions to defend Israel in 2025, while fewer than 650 units have been ordered since the system was put into service in 2010. The American arsenal could be depleted in one or two days of active operations in the event of a large-scale attack by Iran.

Previously, American, French, British and other forces helped defend Israel from hundreds of Iranian drones, cruise and ballistic missiles in April 2024, but this time they did not create a similar international coalition.

On February 28, at least three explosions were heard in central Tehran, resulting from an Israeli attack.
