“We have very little time”: artificial intelligence will take away 40% of people’s jobs
Over the past 20 years, economic crises and upheavals have become much more frequent, notes Kristalina Georgieva, managing director of the International Monetary Fund. The rapid development of artificial intelligence can also be the cause of a large-scale crisis.
According to Georgieva, such technologies can cause the disappearance of 60% of jobs in developed countries, and 40% – in the world in general. She warned that the global economy has little time to prepare.
“We have very little time to prepare people and businesses for this. If we get it right, it can lead to huge productivity gains. But the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology can also lead to an increase in misinformation and, of course, an increase in inequality in society.” , – notes director of the MVF.
At the same time, pessimistic expectations regarding the fall of the world economy have not been fulfilled yet. It is predicted that there will be no sharp jumps in inflation in the coming years. However, the level of uncertainty in the world market remains quite high.
“Despite expecting new shocks, especially due to the climate crisis, the world economy has remained surprisingly stable. We are not in a global recession. Last year there were fears that most economies would slide into recession, but this did not happen. Inflation, which noticeably hit the economy in 2020 – 2022, is declining almost everywhere,” Kristalina Gerorgieva noted.
