Which of the Ukrainians will be able to receive subsidies for housing in Slovakia
Housing subsidies for Ukrainian refugees will be charged in Slovakia from July 1. The relevant decision was adopted by the National Council of the Slovak Republic. However, Ukrainians will not receive payments directly. The money will be transferred to property owners who provide housing for refugees free of charge.
The money will be transferred from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country. Subsidies will not be provided to owners of commercial housing (hotels, hostels, etc.).
We would like to remind you that from July 1, the government decision establishing the maximum period of residence of Ukrainians in social housing comes into force in Slovakia. From now on, you can live in a free apartment or room only for 120 days from the moment of arrival in the Slovak Republic. During this time, Ukrainians with the status of temporary protection should get a job and start renting housing on their own.
Ukrainians who belong to socially vulnerable categories will still be able to rent housing at the expense of the state.
The Government of Slovakia has included the following groups of citizens in the list of vulnerable categories of refugees:
- persons with serious health disorders (people with disabilities) who receive a subsidy for humanitarian aid;
- families receiving assistance in case of extreme need;
- people who have reached the age of 65;
- single mothers or fathers who independently care for a child under the age of 5, or guardians who have a court order to care for a child under the age of 5.
A similar decision was recently adopted by the government of the Czech Republic. From September 1, Ukrainian refugees will be able to live in social housing for free only during the first 90 days after arriving in the country. Vulnerable categories of migrants will have the opportunity to receive monthly partial monetary compensation for housing rent (approximately 6,000 kroner per month).
Earlier, Ireland announced the introduction of the so-called “90-day policy”. Ukrainian refugees will be able to use housing in the country for free only for three months after their arrival.
