Will Ukraine receive permission to use US and European weapons for attacks on targets in the Russian Federation: what foreign media write

The Ukrainian issue is gaining more and more strategic importance on the world stage, and the longer the war continues, the more acute the issues regarding permits and restrictions on the use of Western weapons. A sharp dilemma arises: will the USA and Great Britain allow Ukraine to use the provided weapons for strikes on the territory of Russia?
After the joint visit to Kyiv by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and British Foreign Minister David Lammy, there are more and more reasons to believe that such a decision can be made. This topic was also discussed at the meeting between US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. With each new stage of military assistance, new questions arise regarding the limits of the application of this support. Recently, there have been increasing calls among military experts and politicians for the need to review the existing restrictions, taking into account the changing situation on the battlefield and the escalation of the conflict.
Iranian missiles in the hands of Russia have become another factor that forces us to review the approaches to the defense support of Ukraine, because the war is no longer perceived as an exclusively European conflict. This is a global struggle for stability and security, and every decision of the West has far-reaching consequences. The support of Ukraine in its struggle for survival is becoming more and more principled and causes discussions about potential strikes in the deep rear of Russia.
What the European press writes about
La Croix – France. The supply of Iranian missiles to Russia changes the schedule, – notes the Paris-based Catholic newspaper La Croix:
“Military support provided to Russia by Iran, complementary to that coming from North Korea, may change the perception of the conflict. The war in Ukraine ceased to be a purely European conflict. Step by step, Russia is building a coalition that it would like to involve Beijing, which has so far denied it military aid.
The members of this coalition have a stated goal – to use aggressive methods to destabilize both their environment and the basic rules of the international order. The conflict spills over. This should serve as a reason for the West to reassess the risks arising from Russian aggression, as well as its own policy of supporting Ukraine – including the establishment of red lines.”
The Spectator – Great Britain. The London weekly The Spectator takes an unequivocal position:
“The fear of nuclear escalation is a chimera, and there are two options here: either Western politicians mistakenly believe in this chimera – or they use it as a convenient excuse for their own inaction. …Ukraine is facing an existential threat. If Vladimir Putin wins this war, we know that he will wipe Ukraine off the face of the earth – as a state, as a nation and as a people.
The very fact that we allow ourselves to give advice to Ukraine on how exactly it should fight for its survival is egregious. Our friends in Kyiv clearly and distinctly ask us to give them what we could easily give them. Cancel the restrictions, cancel them, and immediately!”.
Tages-Anzeiger – Switzerland. The Zurich Tages-Anzeiger suggests the following:
“On the one hand, despite all warnings about escalation, Russia has so far put up with every increase in the quality and quantity of weapons supplied by the West. Now Ukraine is fighting with fighter jets, tanks, artillery and grenades, all of which come from NATO countries.
On the other hand, the fact that the matter has not escalated so far does not mean that it will continue to do so. This is not stupidity or cowardice on the part of Western politicians, this is their task: to think about how to prevent the war in Ukraine from turning into the third world war.”
La Repubblica – Italy. On the pages of Rome’s La Repubblica, Pina Picerno, vice-president of the European Parliament, laments Italy’s position:
“Europe, which was able to resolutely react to Russia’s massive aggression against Ukraine and which realizes that a lot is at stake in terms of our fate, – as before, unequivocally supports the resistance of the Ukrainian people. In our country, the situation looks different: doubts are constantly expressed here, also as a result of intensified Russian propaganda.
The refusal to allow the use of Italian weapons on Russian territory is tantamount to a corresponding signal to the war criminal Vladimir Putin and his government. I believe that the position that can be seen in the actions of the Italian government and the party of which I am a member, namely the Democratic Party, is wrong.”
