Women’s air defence units are already defending the frontline as part of the Armed Forces: Krivonos
It is necessary to prepare replacements for men who serve in the air defence units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and these positions can be filled by women – there are already successful examples. Major General Serhii Kryvonos, a reserve officer, told Novosti.Live.
‘We need to understand that we already have examples of women’s air defence units defending certain areas. These capabilities need to be built up and experience shared,’ Krivonos said.
He recalled that during World War II, in 1942, both in Germany and the USSR, men were transferred from air defence units to the front, and their places were taken by women.
‘My grandmother fought in such a regiment from 1942 to 1945, and she was quite successful. Therefore, there is no need to reinvent the wheel, but to train those who can replace them,’ he stressed.
