Akhmetov’s company DTEK wants to terminate the contract with Energoatom, which became the subject of a scandal

D.Trading, part of the DTEK group, initiated the procedure for early termination of the contract with the state-owned enterprise Energoatom after public statements by the head of the parliamentary committee on energy and housing and communal services, Andriy Gerus. He reported that due to the results of the auction, the state-owned company could lose about UAH 2 billion, which could potentially go to private traders, including D. Trading.

The company stated that it had officially appealed to Energoatom with a proposal to terminate the fulfillment of obligations under the contract concluded following the results of the last auction by mutual consent of the parties.

“D. Trading officially appealed to the state-owned energy generating company Energoatom with a proposal to terminate further fulfillment of mutual obligations under the contract concluded following the results of the last auction, by mutual consent of the parties,” the company noted.

They explained that the decision was made in light of critical assessments by experts regarding the conditions of the auction and external circumstances that were beyond the company’s control. D. Trading believes it is appropriate to initiate early termination of the contract, since the circumstances of its conclusion have become the subject of widespread public discussion.

The editor of the publication “Nashi Groshi” Yuriy Nikolov noted on the social network Facebook that Rinat Akhmetov’s structure could have received about UAH 400 million in profit by the end of January, but in the event of a final termination of the agreement, this will not happen. According to him, Energoatom will be able to quickly put up for sale the unsold volume of electricity at market prices.

“Akhmetov’s company could have earned approximately UAH 400 million on this deal by the end of January, but after the final termination of the agreement, this will not happen. And the unsold amount of energy “Energoatom” can quickly put up for sale at the market price,” Nikolov wrote.

At the same time, the journalist raised the issue of other contracts concluded for the supply of electricity at low prices, because about 60 companies in total became buyers.

“Akhmetov had a big jackpot, but it was only 20% of the whole pie. “Options” for another 1.5 billion UAH passed through the hands there. Which, unlike DTEK, no one is rushing to give up,” he noted.

Earlier, Andriy Gerus, in an appeal to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, stated that due to “blatant incompetence or corrupt interests,” Energoatom could lose about UAH 2 billion. According to him, significant volumes of electricity were sold on the eve of the increase in price caps. Gerus emphasized that the idea of increasing price caps had been discussed at closed meetings since January 8, which the state-owned company’s management was informed about.

Despite this, between January 12 and 15, the regulator publicly stated that there were no changes in pricing policy. On January 14, Energoatom held an auction and sold 2,100 MW of electricity at the old, lower prices. However, on January 16, the regulator unexpectedly, in violation of procedures, increased the price caps by 82.5% – to UAH 15,000 per MWh.

According to Gerus, the difference between the auction and the new market price could have resulted in Energoatom losing about UAH 2 billion, which could have potentially become a profit for private traders.
