Xi Jinping said the inevitability of China’s “reunification” with Taiwan

Chinese President Xi Jinping once again declared the inevitability of “reunification” with Taiwan, stressing that this process cannot be stopped. About this informs Reuters.

“The people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family. No one can break our family ties, and no one can stop the historical trend of national reunification.” – noted Si.

Last year, during the New Year’s address, the Chinese leader also emphasized the need for unification with Taiwan, calling on the peoples of both sides of the strait for a common goal and participation in the “greatness of the revival of the Chinese nation.”

China continues to consider the democratically governed Taiwan as part of its territory. At the same time, Taipei rejects these claims, saying that the future of the island can only be determined by its people, and China must respect that choice. Tensions in the Taiwan Strait remained high throughout 2024, especially after Lai Chinte, whom Beijing views as a “separatist,” took office as Taiwan’s president in May.

We remind you that earlier the government of Taiwan sent a congratulatory letter to the newly elected US President Donald Trump. The letter, released through a former Trump administration official during a private meeting, reflects Taiwan’s cautious approach to relations with the new White House administration.
