Young people have noticeably lost trust in Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the scandal with NABU and SAPO: survey
Confidence in Volodymyr Zelenskyi significantly decreased after attempts to limit the independence of NABU and SAP, which was especially evident among young people. About this testify results of the July survey of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.
At the beginning of May, the level of trust in the president was 74%, while at the beginning of June it dropped to 65%. KMIS assumes that by July 22 this indicator could decrease even more. The most significant drop was recorded among respondents aged 18 to 29: from 74% support to 59%. Analysts attribute this to the adoption of a law that temporarily deprived anti-corruption bodies of their independence and sparked youth protests.
In older age groups, the level of trust also decreased, although less significantly – by 3-7 percentage points. Among the main reasons for mistrust, survey participants cited corruption in the country, war, weakness of the presidential team, lack of competence, unfulfilled promises and the distance of the head of state from the everyday problems of citizens. At the same time, only a small part of the respondents directly accused Zelensky of corruption.
Anton Hrushetskyi, executive director of KMIS, noted that any careless action of the authorities in the field of anti-corruption will cause a sharp public reaction. According to him, although the current trends do not yet indicate a loss of legitimacy, they are a sign of growing criticism, which in wartime can have serious consequences.
