The diplomat noted that he came at the invitation of the Ukrainian communities of Oxford and Cambridge universities.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain Valery Zaluzhnyi held a meeting with Ukrainian students in Oxford. As the diplomat shared, this event inspired him a lot. Zaluzhnyi emphasized that it is difficult to describe the feelings that arise during the first visit to Oxford.
“At the university, it is as if history itself speaks to you, and thousands of people who, passing through these walls, created it and continue to create it” – noted the ambassador in his Telegram.
The ambassador came at the invitation of the Ukrainian communities of Oxford and Cambridge universities. He emphasized that communication with Ukrainian students studying in these leading institutions of higher education inspired him.
“These are the leaders, the elite of our country, whom it is waiting for and very much in need of. And soon this educated, patriotic, ambitious youth will return home. They will build the Ukraine of the future, in which, I want to believe, there will be no war.” – said Zaluzhnyi.
He also noted that his interlocutors are ambassadors of Ukraine, actively promoting the country in the international academic environment.
Zaluzhnyi separately thanked the first member of the House of Lords of Ukrainian origin, Professor Lionel Tarassenko, for his efforts in support of Ukraine. It was on his initiative that Oxford started a special scholarship for Ukrainians three years ago.
As part of the visit, the ambassador also met with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, Irene Tracey, and the Master of Beliol College, Dame Helen Frances Ghosh. Zaluzhnyi emphasized that these meetings gave him confidence that Ukrainian students in Oxford are in safe hands. He was deeply moved by the caring attitude of the university management towards Ukrainian students.
