Zelensky instructed the Cabinet to create strategies to support war veterans: key aspects

On August 22, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, approved Decree No. 512 aimed at strengthening support for war veterans and their families. The document instructs the government to urgently approve two key strategies that should cover all aspects of the state’s interaction with veterans.
About these measures the president announced during a speech at the VII annual international veterans’ forum “Ukraine. Veterans. Unity”. The content of the decree was published on the official website of the president.
According to Zelenskyi, the main purpose of the veteran policy is to express gratitude and respect to the soldiers who went through the horrors of war.
The government should immediately approve:
- The strategy of the veteran policy for the period until 2030 and the plan for its implementation.
- Strategy for the transition from military service to civilian life for the period until 2032, including a plan of measures for its implementation.
Also, according to the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers is obliged to ensure the functioning of veterans’ spaces, which will contribute to the reintegration of veterans, their comprehensive rehabilitation and the provision of informational, advisory and legal assistance to veterans and their families.
In addition, Zelensky ordered the establishment of a consultative and analytical center “Single Veteran’s Line”, which will provide informational support to war veterans and their families, as well as monitor and assess their needs.
Regional state administrations, together with local self-government bodies, should implement measures aimed at comprehensive support of veterans.
Decree No. 512 enters into force from the moment of its promulgation, that is, from August 22.
