President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin during the Shangri-La Dialogue Asian Security Summit. Politicians discussed Ukraine’s defense needs, which can be covered by a new military aid package from the United States.
In particular, it was about the equipment and weapons needed by the country for training and equipping new brigades. The head of state also discussed with the US defense minister the possibilities of speeding up the supply of F-16 fighter jets and strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. Progress was noted in signing a bilateral security agreement.
The President thanked for the constant support from Washington.
“We are very grateful to President Joseph Biden and his administration for their constant help in the fight for our freedom and independence,” Volodymyr Zelenskyi said.
The President of Ukraine separately expressed his gratitude for the adoption by the administration of the President of the United States of an important decision to authorize strikes by American weapons on the territory of Russia. According to Zelenskyi, this will contribute to effective countermeasures against the Russian Federation’s attempts to expand the combat zone.
