Zelenskyy called on the EU to include a ban on maritime services for Russian vessels in the new sanctions package

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the European Union with an appeal to include restrictions on maritime services for vessels used by Russia in the next sanctions package.

According to the president, Ukraine expects that the new EU sanctions package will contain the solutions necessary to put real pressure on Russia for the war that has begun, in particular steps that will make it impossible to continue fighting.

“This includes a ban on maritime services for vessels used by Russia. It is worth coming to Europe for this. And this is what could become a significant incentive from Europe for Russia to finally move from war to diplomacy, to real diplomacy. War is necessary “to finish”, – the president emphasized.

Zelensky also noted that 225 captains of ships transporting Russian oil are already under Ukrainian sanctions.

He added that Ukraine will gradually introduce restrictions and make them global for everyone who helps Russia obtain funds for waging war.

On December 13, Ukraine imposed sanctions against almost 700 tankers of the so-called Russian “shadow fleet”, which transport oil bypassing international restrictions.

“This is the largest sanction “The package is specifically against tankers and other vessels that serve aggression. The package includes vessels that sail not only under the Russian flag, but also under the flags of other states – in particular, more than 50 jurisdictions,” the president reported.
